Using Interactive Technology to Enhance Creativity for Young Children

Information and Communication, Technology (ICT) is dramatically expanding in Taiwan; however, ICT in early childhood education is deficient in educational implication. The purpose of this study is to apply ICT in developing digital learning materials for enhancing young children’s creativity. To achieve the purpose, the methods of the study included focus group, observation and experimental research. The instruments invented by the researchers included nine sets of interactive devices designed by interactive table, Kinect, and iPad. With intentional sampling method, the sample of the study included four kindergartens of 149 children aged 4-6 with consideration of gender, public/private, and city/suburb. Findings showed that flexibility and originality of experimental group children were significantly better than those of control group. The findings demonstrate that the interactive devices designed by the study are effective in enhancing children’s creativity. The findings revealed that the fluency of suburb children is significantly better than the one of city children. Boy’s originality is significantly better than the one of girls. Private kindergarten children are significantly more fluent and flexible than those of children in public kindergartens.
